The Sanctuary Trails
One of Shimla’s best kept secrets, the magnificent Shimla Water Catchment Sanctuary has been a protected and reserved forest since 130 years.
A treasure house of Himalayan flora and fauna, this pristine sanctuary offers a multitude of trails that meander through dense coniferous and oak forests.
An accompanying naturalist unravels the plethora of species that abound here, including Himalayan wild flowers, trees, birds and an occasional spotting of some of the shy wildlife, including the Leopard!
One can further savour this experience with a picnic lunch in the middle of the forest.

Hiking through Himalayan Countryside

The Shalli Tibba Ascent
The Shalli Tibba (9500 ft.) is the highest mountain peak in the vicinity of Shimla. It is a magnificent isolated pinnacle with a temple dedicated to goddess Kali perched on the top. The ascent up to the Tibba (peak) is along an ancient trail through dense coniferous forests and rolling alpine pastures.
It is a steep and steady climb to the peak, rewarded finally by an unforgettable view from the top of the Greater Himalayan Range stretching across the horizon, along with the densely forested hills of the lower and middle Himalayas.
After paying ones respects at the temple, descend back to the vehicle that waits for the drive back to Woodville Palace.

The Colonial Heritage Tour
Acknowledged as ‘Queen of Hills’, Shimla was discovered and developed in the early 1800’s by the East India Company and later became the summer capital of British India.
This historic town is embellished with some fine examples of historical buildings, colonial architectural styles and many a tale from an era gone by.
The tour can either be a half-day or a full-day experience, accompanied by an expert historian/guide who unfolds the fascinating history of the town, as you walk through it.

Mountain Biking
Shimla and its surroundings offera range of mountain cycling trails. Many of the roads in the town are restricted to vehicular traffic, which provides a chance to explore the scenic parts of town safely on a bicycle.
Beyond the suburbs of the town, where the landscape beckons the adventurer, biking trails pass through dense woods of cedar, spruce and pine and pass by hamlets where life has followed a steady pace for years.
