Detailed itinerary:
Day 01: Shimla – Tattapani – Village Chindi Driving distance: 93 km Driving duration: 04 – 05 hours
Elevation 1850 m
After breakfast drive from Shimla to Village Chindi. The mountain drive passes through famous golf glade of Naldhera and drops into Sutlej Valley to reach Tattapani. With a sudden change in elevation, the temperate vegetation dramatically transforms into costal foliage,
from stately Deodars into palm grooves!
The drive further ascends through tiny hamlets decorated by terrace farms to reach Village Chindi.
Overnight camp in a Blue Pine forest, near the village.
Day 02: Chindi – Shikari Devi The distance of Hike: 14.5 km Hiking duration 06 – 07 hours
Elevation: 3350 m
In the morning after breakfast, a lovely hike traverses through narrow alleys of villages, scattered over mountains.
The walk gently slips into a thick coniferous forest on narrow trails divided by banks of Rolling Meadows, adored with range of unique wild flowers.
The full day hike concludes onto an extended ridge and summit of Shikari is clearly visible. Finally reach the top and we camp, here for overnight.
Day 03: Shikari Devi – Jhanjeli Village The distance of Hike: 10 km Elevation: 2150 m
As the light of dawn breaks, early risers are blessed by extended panoramic views of long chain of snow-capped Himalayan range. Post breakfast, getting blessed from the ancient temple the hike further descends down to Jhanjeli Village.
The first section of walk introduce today to interesting mountain geology with valleys rising and transforming into snowcapped mountains.
Suddenly the hike descends through a Cedar forest, along a tiny stream which turns into river. A dip into the icy waters of the river is highly refreshing.
The concluding section of hike passes through the traditional village of Jhanjeli making its way through tiny farms. Reach your guest house for afternoon and evening is at leisure to explore the village around. Overnight in guest house.
Day 04: Jhanjeli Village – Chajh Gala – Magru Gala – Gada Gaushani The distance of Drive: 11 km
The distance of Hike: 15 km Elevation: 2500 m
Today after breakfast, drive to Magru Gala, a road tri-junction on a mountain top. From here the hike climbs up to a ridgeline and one can easily spot Skikari the high mountain across Jhanjeli.
A gentle gradient of the walk today allows traveler to enjoy the distant views, advancing partially on meadows and forest.
The concluding stretch of the walk offers countryside views as we reach to Chaj Gala and Gada Gaushani for overnight. Overnight in tents.
Day 05: Gada Gaushani – Raghupur Fort – Jalori Pass The distance of Hike: 10 km The distance of Drive: 05 km Elevation: 3350 m
Based by the bank of a river, village Gada Gaushani, is the bordering village marking Mandi and Kullu district of Himachal Pradesh.
After breakfast, the day winds up through village Alwah, following a thick coniferous forest, occasionally peeping some of the best mountain views.
The entire hike is intercepted by lush green meadows in the thick forest cover to reach Raghupur Fort for early evening. And this is the highest point of the hike with an elevation of 11614 feet.
Finally descend to Jalori pass and camp above the pass for overnight.
Day 06: Jalori Pass – Serolasar Lake – Sangla The distance of Hike: 10 km The distance of Drive: 180 km Driving durations: 07 – 08 hours Elevation: 2700 m
In the morning after breakfast enjoy a lovely walk to Serolsar Lake. One end of the lake is housed with an ancient temple dedicated to a local deity.
Getting blessed from the Mountain Gods, retrace the walk back to Jalori Pass. From Jalori Pass drive to Sangla for overnight stay. Overnight at hotel.
Day 07: Sangla – Sangla Kanda – Sangla – Kalpa
The distance of Hike: 10 km The distance of Drive: 40 km
Driving duration: 1.5 hours Elevation: 2950 m
After early breakfast hike from Sangla village up to the meadow of Sangla Kanda and enjoy lovely views of Kinner Kailash (6050 m) from here. Later, post lunch hike down to Sangla and drive to Kalpa for overnight.
Overnight stay in hotel at Kalpa. View of Kinner Kailash (6050 m) from Kalpa will be an enchanting site.
Day 08: Kalpa – Rampur – Narkanda The distance of Hike: 03 km The distance of Drive: 162 km
Driving duration: 05 – 06 hours Elevation: 2750 m
Today after early breakfast drive back to Narkanda, the place use to be the first major stopover on famous Hindustan Tibet Road in 1860’s.
En-route visit the Summer Palace for the Raja’r of Bushair. For evening reach Narkanda.
Day 09: Narkanda – Hatu Peak – Shimla The distance of Hike: 10 km The distance of Drive: 70 km
Driving duration: 02 – 2.5 hours Elevation: 2100 m
Today after breakfast, hike up to Hatu peak (3400 m), the isolated mountain top offer panoramic views of snow-capped Himalaya. Later, hike back to Narkanda and drive back to Shimla.
Day 10: Shimla – Kalka – Chandigarh – Delhi
The distance of Drive: 130 km Driving duration Chandigarh: 3.5 – 04 hours Train Ride Chandigarh – Delhi: 04 hours
Wrapping up your mountain memories, today, board a toy train from Shimla to Kalka connecting with fast train Shatabadi to Delhi for overnight.
