Shrikhand Mahadev Peak Trek – A spiritual trek in Himalaya (05 nights and 06 days)
Detailed itinerary:
Day 01: Shimla – Narkanda – Nirmand – Jaon Village – Singarh
Driving distance: 170 km Driving durations: 05 – 06 hours Hiking distance: 03 km
Hiking durations: 1.5 – 02 hours Elevation: 6870 feet
Early morning lovely drive from Shimla passes through the traces of the ambitious Old Hindustan Tibet Road of the British Empire. The spectacular views of interlocked valleys
loaded with apple orchards and a range of cultivations on terrace farms.
From Narkanda the drive plunges to River Sutlej, originating from the highlands of Tibet, Sutlej contributes to making Punjab the food bowl of India and flows into the Arabian Sea.
Across the River Sutlej on the other side, drive past Nirmand Baazar to reach Jaon village for the afternoon.
The trek starts from here an acclimatization hike along River Kurpan through terrace farms brings us to Singarh, a camp near the River for early evening. Rest of the day at leisure and post-dinner overnight in tents.
Day 02: Singarh – Thachru – Kunsha
Hiking distance: 17 km Hiking durations: 06 – 07 hours Elevation: 12200 feet
Depart early morning from the camp and just across the River and a steep climb four five hours welcome us! The hike passes through a thick coniferous forest offering at regular intervals closer views of towering snow-capped peaks.
Just at the transition zone between forest cover and alpine meadows is Thachru campsite with views of the Shrikhand top.
The hike climbs up meadows to Kali Ghati top and seeks blessings of Goddess Kali with magnificent panoramic views, the day ends with arrival at Kunsha for early evening.
Rest of the day is at leisure, enjoying golden sunset and post-dinner overnight in tents.
Day 03: Bheem Talai – Bheem Dawar – Parvati Bagh
Hiking distance: 07 km Hiking durations: 05 – 06 hours Elevation: 13660 feet
Today, after leisurely breakfast, the first leg of the hike till Bheem Dawar is moderately gradual.
Except for the sudden plunge of a narrow single trail into gorge and shortly steeply gaining it back.
Enjoy your packed lunch at Bheem Dawar with a beautiful view of Jat Ganga (Long milky waterfalls).
The concluding stretch of the hike winds up over the ridge for an hour and a half bringing us to Parvati Bagh. The place is the beginning of the moraine zone and the space little space between the rocks is adorned with banks of rare Bhram Kamal (Saussurea obvallata).
Enjoy camp under the night full of stars!
Day 04: Parvati Bagh – Nain Sarovar – Shrikhand Mahadev Peak – Parvati Bagh
Hiking distance: 10 km Hiking durations: 06 – 07 hours Elevation: 17150 feet
Today, with an early start we hike to reach Nain Sarovar, a sacred lake that is right
below the concluding ridge which finally takes us to the sacred Shrikhand Peak in about another four hours.
The early start saves us from scorching morning sun, stunning views en route, hopping and crawling over gigantic rocks finally brings us to our destination.
Allow yourself to imbibe the spiritual aura of the place and after a short break, we can descend slowly back to Parvati Bagh for late afternoon.
Day 05: Parvati Bagh – Thachru
Hiking distance: 12km Hiking durations: 06 – 07 hours
Retracing your journey, today after a leisure breakfast hike down to Bheem Talai and up to Kali Ghati and finally to the forest of Thachru for overnight.
Reach the camp and evening is for leisure. Overnight in tents.
Day 06: Thachru – Jaon Village – Shimla
Hiking distance: 15 km Hiking durations: 04 – 05 hours
Bidding goodbye to the mountains, today after breakfast, hike down to Jaon village and back to Shimla for the evening.
